A Multiple Listing Service, or widely known as MLS, is an online comprehensive system of homes for sale listings operated by licensed real estate brokers and agents, or REALTORS®. Properties listed on the local MLS will likely be syndicated on different real estate websites such as Realtor.com, Zillow, Redfin, Trulia, and RE/MAX. These online databases are exclusive only to licensed real estate agents and affiliate professionals. However, you can pay an agent for a pre-set amount of money to list your home on the local MLS via Flat Fee MLS service. Most For Sale By Owner (FSBO) or homeowners who sell a property without an agent choose a Flat Fee MLS option to save thousands of commissions and still take care of most of the home-selling process themselves. Instead of the traditional full-service agent which can cost you up to 5 to 6% commission fee of the final sales price, you’re just going to pay an upfront fee to list your home on the local MLS.
