surveys as “Jacob’s Ladder.” Well-worn trails are maintained throughout by the Piedmont Hunt,
preserving the old network of travel through this extraordinary forest.
The wooded ground falls away to the south and east toward the deep water and wide bends of
Gap Run, while to the north and west it rises along a ridge behind the vast hayfield beside the
cabin. Here, at Brookside’s highest elevation, the land commands sweeping views across the
countryside to the Cobbler and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The land is conscientiously protected under a conservation easement held by the Virginia
Outdoors Foundation.
