A distinguished early-20th-century cooperative, the Longview is a low-rise, one-story-equivalent brick building completed in 1917 and sited directly along the Charles River in Cambridge. Its architecture reflects pre-war detailing: high ceilings, arched windows, built-in millwork, crown moldings, paneled fireplaces, and hardwood floors throughout many residences. The cooperative offers predominantly multi-room apartments configured as two- and three-bedroom units, with some one-bedroom and larger layouts historically present; interiors commonly include formal living and dining rooms, studies or libraries, custom closets, and bonus rooms. Building services and systems emphasize resident support and maintenance — an elevator, two live-in superintendents, on-site professional management, and common laundry plus private basement storage are standard. Landscaped communal grounds include a fenced, manicured garden and courtyard with river views, professional landscaping and sprinklers; parking is available on a rental or waiting-list basis nearby rather than as on-site garages. Pet occupancy is allowed with prior permission under cooperative rules. The location places residents steps from Longfellow and JFK Memorial Parks and within easy walking distance of Harvard Square, combining strong pedestrian access to shops, transit and outdoor recreation with sweeping Charles River vistas and a historically preserved, residential character.
