986 Memorial Dr

A historic low-rise cooperative built in 1917, this single-story entry represents one contiguous floorplate within a larger riverfront elevator building in Cambridge. The property’s architecture reflects early 20th-century detailing: high ceilings, wide bay windows, crown moldings, built-in cabinetry, pocket doors, and classical mantels that anchor living spaces. Interiors typically include generous living and dining rooms oriented to take advantage of Charles River views, working fireplaces, hardwood floors (oak and pine), and practical additions such as dens or entrance foyers, pendant lighting, and updated kitchens with stainless or stone surfaces. Building services and common areas are consistent with a professionally managed co-op: elevator access, two live-in superintendents, common laundry and basement storage, an exercise room, and well-kept landscaped grounds including a private courtyard/garden and fenced yard. Exterior features emphasize a riverfront outlook and private outdoor spaces — terraces or balconies on upper levels and a courtyard garden for residents. Parking is limited: association-owned parking exists with waitlists or rental options nearby and occasional off-street spaces offered for separate purchase. The co-op maintains pet approval by board policy and typically bundles major costs — taxes, heat, and sometimes mortgage interest — into monthly assessments. Proximity to Harvard Square, bookstores, cafes, and university amenities situates the building where urban convenience meets riverfront tranquility.
