Gray Middle School was renamed in 1998 in honor of Cecil E. Gray, a former principal. In 1996 the middle and high school campuses were combined on one site, and until June 2009 the school was partly housed in a building that had opened in 1937 as a high school under an earlier name. It moved to a new campus in August 2010. It is part of Lake County Schools. The Florida Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Project named it a bronze-level Model School. Its students are the Gators.
