The Kenilworth Co-op

Completed in 1907, The Kenilworth Co-op is a 12–13 story, prewar cooperative in the French Second Empire tradition with just 14 large residences and typically three apartments per floor. The façade preserves period character — mansard rooflines, ornate cornices, and a moat with wrought-iron railings — while an elegantly restored lobby and corridor plasterwork recall its turn-of-the-century craftsmanship. Apartments are predominantly multi-room three-bedroom layouts (originally seven- or eight-room plans) featuring high ceilings, oversized and often corner windows, decorative fireplaces, inlaid/parquet or quarter-sawn oak floors, extensive millwork, leaded-glass details, and long galleries that separate public entertaining rooms from private bedroom wings. Kitchens range from historically sympathetic renovations to fully modern chef’s kitchens with ample pantry and service rooms; many units include staff rooms, washer/dryers, and substantial built-in storage. Shared amenities are understated: a planted roof deck and a modest garden for residents, attended elevator service with a full-time staff, and allocated storage bins. The co-op accepts pets, allows in-unit washer/dryers, and typically permits up to 50% financing subject to board approval and a flip tax. Situated on Central Park West at 75th Street, the building offers direct Central Park and skyline views and immediate access to the cultural institutions and transit options of the Upper West Side.
