Liberty Tower is a landmarked 32-story cooperative built in 1909 and designed in a Gothic Revival idiom by Henry Ives Cobb. The terra-cotta façade is richly ornamented with sculptural details — lions, eagles, gargoyles and other whimsical motifs — and the exterior restoration has been honored with preservation awards. The building contains a small number of residences (around 35 units) with predominantly one-bedroom and loft-style footprints spread across a tall, narrow tower massing. Interior units typically feature pre-war elements reinterpreted for modern living: high ceilings, oversized windows, hardwood floors, decorative crown moldings, generous walk-in closets and foyer gallery entries. Kitchens and baths in many homes have been upgraded with high-end appliances, stone counters and custom cabinetry; several apartments include in-unit washers and dryers, built-in storage systems and private outdoor spaces under 60 square feet. Common building services emphasize full-service staffing — 24-hour doormen, porters and a live-in superintendent — with maintenance that covers heat, gas and water and significant tax-deductible maintenance treatment. The cooperative permits pets, pieds-à-terre and subletting with board approval, and offers limited on-site elevator access and convenient side-entry loading. Located in Lower Manhattan’s Financial District near Brookfield Place, the Oculus, Fulton Center and the South Street Seaport, the tower sits within easy walking distance of multiple subway lines, grocery and retail options, and waterfront parks.
