About Jennings Middle School

Jennings Middle School opened in 2003, reviving a Jennings school that had been closed since 1965. The original school first met in a church that two congregations shared on donated land, moved in the 1930s, added junior high classes in 1940, and in the mid-1950s was cut back to an elementary school and moved again. The school is named for Jinks Jennings, a citrus grower who settled in the area in the early 1920s and offered the district free use of his land if it built a public school there; he sought books, furniture and food for the school, organized volunteers to help its teachers and died in the early 1950s. It is part of Hillsborough County Public Schools and is assigned to the district's Transformation Network Region 3. Its mascot is the Jaguar, and its colors are gold, black and white.
