Hotel Northern was established on July 4, 1903 by Frank Hahnenberg - a Leelanau local who had returned from adventures on the west coast. Here, on the corner of the main intersection in town, Hahnenberg built his grand hotel from local lumber and stone, and in doing so, created one of the most recognizable buildings in the village.
