You pay for the Ballantyne assignment, though, with medians running past $600,000.

Charlotte's biggest advantage is work. The metro ranked second nationally for job growth and added nearly 38,000 jobs in a year. The trade-off is that housing costs have risen alongside that demand, and traffic now costs the average driver about 48 hours a year.
